no significant improvement in theory and applied skills efficacy for youth workers as a result of training

Berufliche Orientierung

No significant difference emerged for previous attendance at an educational/training session in the youth development field and theory efficacy (t(87) = 1.431, p > .05) and applied skills efficacy (t(22.968) = 1.775, p > .05). The mean scores for the respondents with previous attendance at an educational/training session in the youth development field were not significantly different compared to the mean scores of the respondents without previous attendance at an educational/training session in the youth development field.

Evaluierung der Aktivität

Quantitative Fragebogenerhebung (schriftlich/offline)
All of the participants at the conference were invited to participate in the study and these participants were chosen by convenience sampling. The survey instrument used in the research study consisted of three parts.
The final part of the instrument assessed the efficacy levels of youth workers through the 23-question Youth Worker Efficacy Scale (YWES) developed by Kowalski et al. (2011; Note: This is a secondary source. For more information, please check the bibliography of Meissner et al 2013). To gain an accurate measure of youth worker efficacy, the YWES questions were analyzed according to three indices of professional knowledge: theory efficacy, professional values efficacy, and applied skills efficacy.
Theory efficacy: Demonstrate proper interpersonal skills to youth; Demonstrate the importance of inclusion and of understanding differences to youth; Empower youth to positively engage in activities; Demonstrate the importance of multiculturalism in the youth setting; Demonstrate the principles and practices associated with youth work; Illustrate the values and ideals associated with positive youth development. Applied skills efficacy: Handle conflict between youth; Communicate safety issues to youth; Maintain personal health and safety; Inform youth of other developmental opportunities outside of the organization; Demonstrate how to plan an activity for youth; Act as a professional representative for youth organization; Communicate tasks to youth effectively; Understand the various stages of development when working with youth; Understand the professional boundaries when working with youth; Assist youth in identifying a professional career.
