improving organizational health literacy by implementing pilot projects in extracurricular youth work

institutionelle Zusammenarbeit

This paper has described a novel approach to improving the HL friendliness in the setting of extracurricular youth work. In the light of a health in all policies approach, the V-HLO (Dietscher/Pelikan 2017; Pelikan/Dietscher 2015; Note: This is a secondary source. For more information, please check the bibliography of Wieczorek Ganahl o.J.) was transferred to extracurricular youth work settings for the first time. Through developing guidelines for health literate extracurricular youth work settings in Austria, characteristics were defined that constitute the health literacy friendliness of this setting. The results of the evaluation show that the V-HLO could be transferred from the hospital setting to settings of extracurricular youth work.

Evaluierung der Aktivität

At the beginning of the project, kick-off events and a series of workshops took place in three federal states in Austria (Salzburg, Styria and Tyrol). The project evaluation comprised a formative evaluation of the process and a summative evaluation of the outcomes (Stockmann 2007; Note: This is a secondary source. For more information, please check the bibliography of Wieczorek Ganahl o.J.). Accordingly, a mixed methods design was chosen including a qualitative / thematic analysis of the project documents, i.e. minutes of meetings and workshops and open questions in the feedback questionnaires of the workshops. In addition, a descriptive (comparative) analysis was conducted with regard to youth social workers’ responses in the feedback questionnaires and participant lists of the workshops.
